Description

The Protivnik-GE (Russian designator: 59N6-E) is a D-Band (formerly L-Band) multimode 3D air defense radar developed by the Nizhny Novgorod Science Research Institute of Radio Engineering (NNIIRT) in Russia. Operational since 1990, it provides long-range, accurate aircraft position data (range, bearing, and height) for air defense, tactical control, and navigational assistance, enhancing the effectiveness of air force air defense networks and army air raid defenses. The system, mounted on two semi-trailers, has an instrumented range of 270 nautical miles (approximately 600 km operating range) and can detect targets up to 200 km in height, including near-orbit satellites. It features a phased array antenna that forms 20 pencil beams covering a 45-degree elevation, uses pulse compression (approximately 64 µs pulsewidth) for improved range accuracy, resolution, and protection against noise jamming, and employs adaptive beam scheduling with 10 redundant receiver channels. The radar offers a high degree of measurement automation, high resolution under intensive countermeasures, air route data processing, secondary air traffic control radar integration, automatic diagnostics, monitoring, fault finding, and digital output to a tricolor plan position high-aspect ratio display, with antenna rotation speeds of 5 and 10 seconds providing 1 to 3 hits per scan.
