J17

The J17 is a 2D air surveillance and target acquisition radar operating in the VHF band, specifically designed for detecting low-flying targets. Its VHF frequency range offers advantages against stealth aircraft. The system utilizes relatively narrow-band Yagi antennas mounted on a telescopic mast, while a flat antenna positioned in front of the traverse serves the secondary radar (IFF). This radar is also employed by the Chinese Navy on ships, where it is designated as Type 317.
