Description

Roland is a short range surface-to-air missile (SAM) developed to fit into French Roland air defense system. It can engine aircraft flying at Mach 1.5 and helicopters. Its guidance system is based on radiofrequency Semi-Active Command-to-Line-Of-Sight (SACLOS) or Command-to-Line-Of-Sight (CLOS). Roland missile can be fired from armored vehicles equipped with Roland air defense system which includes a wide range of platforms such as AMX-13, Marder and AMX-30. Roland-equipped vehicles primary role is to provide air defense for armored units deployed in the battlefield. Roland missile was sold to the Armed Forces of France, Germany and Spain.
