Description

Bell 205/UH-1 Iroquois, also known as the Huey, is a light utility helicopter suitable for a variety of missions and available for both military and civil customers. Originally the UH-1 program was developed to meet the US Army requirements. Subsequently the US Navy and Marine Corps ordered this aircraft. UH-1 can conduct missions such as medical evacuation, command and control, vertical assault, personnel and equipment transport, gunship, etc. It was widely used in the Vietnam war with more than 5,000 units deployed to the theater of operations in Southeast Asia. Typically Bell 205/UH-1 family of helicopters are powered by one T53 turboshaft engine. UH-1N is a twin-engine variant of UH-1 used by the US Marine Corps for command and control, medical evacuation, resupply, liaison and troop transport duties. UH-1N is powered by two Pratt & Whitney T400 engines rated at 1,250-shp each. TH-1H is one of the latest developments based on the UH-1 aircraft and will serve as a training helicopter for the US Air Force which plans to procure as many as 24 such aircraft. AgustaBell AB212/AB412 is a twin-engine medium transport helicopter derived from the UH-1 family of aircraft. It is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T/T400 engines each rated at 1,875-shp. In addition to its transport role, AB212/412 can perform search and rescue, emergency medical support, law enforcement, and maritime surveillance missions. AB212/412 has been sold to the Navies of Italy and Thailand.
