Description

The BAOBAB-K Polish Scattered Mining Vehicle is an advanced automated mine-laying system developed by Polish defense company Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) in collaboration with partners including Jelcz, BELMA, WB Group, and the Military Institute of Engineering Technology. The BAOBAB-K is designed to rapidly deploy scattered anti-tank barrier minefields of varying sizes, densities, and self-destruct times without putting soldiers in direct danger. The system enables engineering tactical-level troops to establish defensive minefields that can destroy or incapacitate enemy armored vehicles while significantly reducing personnel risk compared to manual mine-laying operations. The BAOBAB-K integrates an advanced information and communication technology (ICT) system that enables real-time visualization of minefields on digital maps displayed on the computer screen. Minefield parameters and coordinates are recorded and can be transmitted to higher command levels through radio communications, improving battlefield coordination. The system eliminates the need for soldiers to manually place mines in dangerous conditions. Operators control the BAOBAB-K from a safe distance using ground control stations, dramatically reducing casualty risk while maintaining precise minefield deployment. The automated approach enables rapid battlefield fortification, allowing forces to establish defensive barriers in response to changing tactical situations. The BAOBAB-K represents a significant advancement in defensive engineering capabilities, combining automation, precision, and mobility to enhance modern military defensive operations while prioritizing personnel safety.

Mine Capacity and Deployment
Configuration Six mine launchers, each capable of carrying 20 cassettes containing 5 mines each.
Operational Modes The system operates in both automatic and manual modes. In automatic mode, an onboard computer automatically calculates vehicle speed, launcher settings, and adjusts the frequency of mine launching while the vehicle is in motion. The system can quickly transition between transport and combat modes.
Mine Type MN-123.1 and MN-123.2 programmable anti-tank mines manufactured by BELMA.
Mine Specifications The MN-123 anti-tank mines are integrated with double-acting cumulative charges and non-contact igniters, triggering when a vehicle passes over them. The mines are programmable, allowing operators to set specific activation and self-destruction times, enhancing tactical flexibility while preventing unintended detonations against friendly forces.
Total Mine Capacity 600 anti-tank mines per vehicle.
Laying Range 30 to 90 meters from vehicle centerline.
Maximum Minefield Length Up to 1,800 m.
Laying Speed 5 to 25 kilometers per hour (automatically adjusted based on desired minefield density).
Mine Deployment Time: Less than 22 minutes to lay all 600 mines
Reload Time Less than 30 minutes
Mine Self-Destruction Capability Programmable mine self-destruction capability ensuring mines pose no long-term hazard to friendly forces or civilians after a set period.
Protection
Armor The vehicle features an armored cabin meeting STANAG 4569 ballistic protection standards (Level 1).
