Description

The AGM-114R Hellfire II is a multi-functional missile fitted with a new multi-purpose warhead that enables a single missile to cover all of the target sets of the current laser-guided Hellfire II variants. It will be released from helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The AGM-114R is being designed to take out everything from armor and air defense systems to patrol boats and enemy combatants in SUVs or caves. In addition to the laser guidance system, the new variant is fitted with an inertial measurement unit that allows the missile to hit targets which located behind the launch platform. The AGM-114R will enable to meet many contingencies with a single missile. The first flight of an AGM-114R test missile occurred in October 2009. The AGM-114R9X Hellfire II Ninja is a non-explosive variant used to kill terrorists.
