Description

The Type 90, also known as TKR-90, is an Armored Recovery Vehicle (ARV) derived from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force's (JGSDF) Type 90 main battle tank (MBT). It has been designed to perform recovery of 50-ton class vehicles and engineering missions on the battlefield. The Type 90 ARV is equipped with a crane, a dozer blade, and one roof-mounted M2 12.7mm machine gun for self-defense purposes only. The recovery vehicle can achieve a top speed of 70 kph due to its 1,500-hp ten-cylinder air-cooled two-cycle diesel engine. As of 2006, the JGSDF had fielded 21 Type 90 recovery vehicles since 1996.
