Izumo

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's (JMSDF) DDH183 Izumo is an helicopter destroyer intended to carry seven anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and two search and rescue (SAR) helicopters. Nevertheless the ship can accommodate up to 14 rotary-wing aircraft with five of them carrying out take-off and landing operations at the same time. The new ship is intended to protect the territorial waters of Japan against China's territorial claims. After the launch ceremony of JNS Izumo, China released an statement pointing out that Japan was banned for owning aircraft carriers after its defeat in WWII. China also pointed out that the new ship could be equipped with F-35B V/STOL and/or MV-22 aircraft. The 248-meter and 27,000-ton helicopter carrier was delivered to the JMSDF on March 25, 2015, becoming the largest warship within the Japanese fleet.
