Description

The Type 72 (Metallic) Chinese Anti-Vehicle Mine is a high-explosive (HE), circular, sheet metal-bodied, anti-vehicle landmine which is designed to damage or destroy a vehicle by its blast effect a copy of the Russian TM-46 with a few modifications.

Design The top of the landmine is crimped to the rest of the body and has a domed appearance. The body is made from 0.8mm thick sheet metal while the pressure plate is made from 0.6mm thick sheet metal. The landmine has 5 radial reinforcing ribs on the bottom. The Type 72 has a metal carrying handle spot welded to the bottom and a filler plug located on the side in line with the carrying handle.
Fuze Cavity The fuze cavity is centered in a concave depression on top of the landmine.
Fuze The landmine can be fitted with either the Type 72A blast-resistant pressure fuze or a double impulse pressure fuze.
Detection The Type 72 has a high metal content and can be located easily with metal detectors under most field conditions.
