The Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Super Heron is a medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial system (UAS) using a 200-hp heavy fuel engine and an advanced propulsion system. The new Heron features enhanced capacity, triple redundant advanced avionics, increased rate of climb and performance as well as safe dual automatic takeoff and landing system. Using a variety of payloads and communications equipment, the Super Heron is suitable for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR), maritime patrol and other missions. The aircraft has been designed to operate at ranges of 250 kilometers using line-of-sight communications or up to 1,000 kilometers using SATCOM communications for up to 45 hours. The Super Heron UAS was unveiled at the Singapore Air Show on February 11, 2014. The re-designed Heron MK II was launched in January 2020.
