Description

The Thor is a 120mm mortar ammunition developed by Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland (SBDS). The Thor design focuses on maximizing the explosive blast fragmentation effects on the target, all in, achieving more than twice (250 percent approximately) blast effect on target compared with conventional 120mm mortar rounds. Besides, the new round also utilizes insensitive munitions (IM) to protect the mortar crew. The Thor round also offers safety zones to avoid collateral damage of civilians and friendly troops. It has a maximum range of 8,500 meters carrying 3.4 kilograms of PBXN-110 IM explosive payload with 4,250 steel ball fragments. The mortar round can be provided with an extra 1 kg of explosive. The Thor was introduced at DSEI exhibition in September 2017.
