Description

The Improved Type 12 missile is intended to hit land and sea targets at distances of up to 1,200 kilometers. The missile is intended for launch from submarines using vertical launching systems. The Japanese Self-Defense Force (JSDF) Navy plans to procure the Type 12I and/or Tactical Tomahawk Block V cruise missile to gain long-range engagement capability by 2030. The new Advanced Type 12 cruise missile may be deployed by the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) begining in 2025. The new missile prototype was unveiled in July 2024 no flight test was reported then.
