Description

The M1150 Assault Breacher Vehicle (AVB), also known as the M1 ABV, is a derivative of the M1 Abrams heavyweight tank equipped with a mine plow and linear demolition charge system (LDCS) in order to cross through minefields in support of dismounted troops and other armored vehicles. In addition to minefields, the vehicle is suitable for clearing up pathways plagued by improvised explosive devices (IED) and roadside bombs. The LDCS is capable of clearing stripes of 100-150 meters in length by explosive means. The vehicle is also equipped with additional armor to withstand detonation of explosive devices. The 72-ton M1150 was introduced in 2009 and first deployed by the US Marine Corps in 2010 during the combat operations in Afghanistan.
