Description

The Porubshchik-2 is an advanced electronic warfare (EW) aircraft being developed as the replacement for the scarce Il-22PP aircraft fleet. The new aircraft, based upon the Tu-214 jetliner, will feature the same EW capabilities of its predecessor plus the ability to take down space-based assets such as communication satellites. The Russian press reports that the new system will able to take control over enemy spacecraft. The existence of this platform under development was announced by the Russian officials in July 2018. The Porubshchik-2 aircraft may be based upon the Tu-214 airliner or the Il-476 freighter with an estimated entry into service in the mid-2020s.
