Description

The LCA Navy aircraft is a variant of Tejas/LCA multirole aircraft intended for use aboard aircraft carrier. This aircraft is being designed to operate through ski-jump for taking off operations and arrested landing with the nose drooped for better cockpit vision. Among aerodynamics improvements are fore planes to reduce landing speed. In addition, the fuselage and undercarriage will be strengthened as a result of that the weapons payload will cut to 3,500 kg. The LCA Navy aircraft future remains uncertain due to the recent purchase of Russian Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier along with an undisclosed number of Mig-29K carrier-based multi-role aircraft. In February 2017 the Indian Navy opened a tender for 57 carrier-based jets cancelling thus the development of the navalized version of the Tejas aircraft. Nevertheless, the second prototype was active in August 2018 indicating the Indian Navy interest in its development. As of early 2020, the Indian Navy intention is to use the LCA Navy as technological demonstrator for the LCA(N) Mk1 carrier-based aircraft.
