The Spearfish is a heavyweight torpedo designed to replace the Tigerfish torpedo aboard the Royal Navy submarines. It can perform both surface ships and submarines kill. The first Stingray achieved operational capability with the HMS Vanguard ballistic submarine in 1994. The Spearfish torpedo is powered by a gas turbine engine and the guidance system consists of a copper wire data link connected to the parent submarine submarine. However the Spearfish torpedo can be directed to its target autonomously. A blast fragmentation warhead ensures enemy submarine kill.
