Description

The Chinese Attack Trimaran is a 65-meter semi-submersible surface ship intended to carry a big number of missiles to forward areas in contested waters. The ship can operate without a crew and carries three modules with 16-cell each allowing for 48 vertically launched missiles. The Unmanned Attack Trimaran is expected to carry YJ-16A/C anti-ship/multi-purpose missiles with a range of up to 600 kilometers, YJ-17 and YJ-20 hypersonic ballistic anti-ship missiles with ranges of 1,000-to-1,500 kilometers. The stealth design and semi-submersible feature may prevent its detection by airborne radars at distances of up to 100-to-150 kilometers. NATO and US intelligence revealed the existence of the new warship under construction at Huangpu Shipyard in Guangzhou in November 2025. The lead Attack Trimaran is expected to join the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in 2026 or 2027.
