Derivatsiya-PVO
The 2S38 Derivatsiya-PVO is a new self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) system being developed upon the BMP-3M chassis. The 2S38 utilizes a 57mm automatic cannon along with an array of passive electro-optical (EO) sensors to engage a wide array of airborne threats at close to short ranges such as fixed-wing airplanes, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), cruise missiles and rockets. Besides, the new gun system is able to engage both ground and sea targets. The 2S38 EO sensor is capable of target detection and tracking in passive mode while providing 360-degree full coverage. The maximum detection range varies from 6 to 12 kilometers depending on the target. The 57mm cannon is fast enough to effectively engage airborne targets flying at supersonic speeds of up to 500 meters per second (1,800 kilometers per hour). The new AAA system was revealed at UralVagonZavod (UVZ) plant in late January 2018 following a high ranking official visit. The new artillery system may enter service with the Russian Armed Forces in 2019 or 2020. In early 2021 the weapon system was scheduled for deployment within the Russian Army in 2022. The 57mm cannon will fire guided shells.
