Description

The Navid, 'Harbinger' in English, is a low Earth Observation satellite entirely designed and built by Iran under its domestic weapons program started in 1992 as a response to the United States arms embargo. The spacecraft has been designed to take high resolution pictures of the Earth at altitudes between 250 and 370 kilometers. It will give Iran the ability to monitor movements in the Persian Gulf area from space. The first Navid satellite was placed into orbit by the Islamic Republic of Iran on February 3, 2012.
