Description

The Brazilian Navy's Barroso corvette is a 2,000t class multi-purpose ship intended primarily to conduct anti-submarine (ASW) and anti-surface warfare (ASuW) missions. She is an improved version of Inhauma-class corvettes. Her CODOG (Combined Diesel Or Gas) propulsion system comprises two cruise diesel engines developing 5,800-hp and one LM2500 gas turbine developing 27,500-hp. The Brazilian Navy commissioned Barroso in 2006 and no follow-on ships are expected. The Barroso corvette primary sensor is the DSQS-21C hull-mounted sonar. Besides, the Barroso has a new fire control system and improved electronic warfare systems. Her weapon systems consists of a Vickers 4.5-inch (115mm) dual purpose gun with a maximum range of 22 km, two Bofors 40mm anti-aircraft guns, four MM40 Exocet anti-ship missiles, and two triple 12.75-inch torpedo launchers for Mark 46 torpedoes. The aft flight deck and hangar enables operations of a single AH-11A Super Lynx helicopter.
