Description
The Puma is a lightweight armored vehicle designed to assume reconnaissance, anti-tank, command post and medical evacuation roles. Its lightweight armor allows to withstand 7.62mm impact bullets all around and 12.7mm projectiles in the frontal section. Additional protection may be achieved with add-on armor. The Italian Army has ordered 580 Puma armored vehicles to be delivered between 2001 and 2004. Potential growth of this vehicle could lead the Italian Army to order further Pumas and to develop additional variants. The Puma 4x4 variant will be assigned to light infantry regiments. This vehicle can be armed with 7.62 and 12.7mm guns or a single TOW anti-tank missile launcher.
