Sirio
The Italian Navy Sirio is a class of two stealth offshore patrol vessels (OPV) procured under Italy's Costellazioni 2 or NUPA project and derived from the NUMC project. The propulsion system features two Grandi Motori Trieste-Wartsila-NSD W18-V-26 XN diesel engines developing 12.96 MW of power and a top speed of 22 knots. The ship has a maximum range of 3,300 nautical miles at 17 knots. The Sirio-class vessels are equipped with two Alenia OTO Breda-Oerlikon KBA 25/80 25mm machine guns and one AB212 (or NH90) helicopter operating from the aft flight deck. The facilities also include an hangar and a laboratory for analyzing the chemical pollution of the sea water. The main The Italian Navy commissioned two Sirio patrol vessels in 2003 and 2004.
