Description

Valuk is a 6x6 light armored vehicle manufactured by STO Ravne (now Sistemska tehnika) of Slovenia in cooperation with General Dynamics European Land Systems (Steyr) of Austria and Rafael of Israel. In addition to armored personnel carrier and ambulance roles, Valuk's spectrum of missions includes command post, NBC reconnaissance and armored scout and reconnaissance vehicle (ASRV). Valuk 6x6 is based on Steyr's Pandur II 6x6 chassis and results slightly smaller. Overall this vehicle family design focuses on survivability and firepower integration a range of guns and missile systems and add-on armor. Rafael provides the vehicle's overhead weapon system (OWS-25/RCWS) which is equipped with either a Bushmaster 25mm or 30mm cannon and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. The medium-caliber gun can be replaced by a 40mm grenade launcher. An optional externally-mounted TOW anti-tank weapon system allows to take out heavyweight armored vehicles. Steyr provides the 280-hp turbo diesel engine. Valuk's armor provides protection against 7.62mm ballistic impacts with add-on armor that degree of protection increases to 12.7mm Armor Piercing (AP) ammunition. The Ministry of Defense of Slovenia has signed two procurement contracts with STO Ravne for Valuk 6x6 armored vehicles so far. Both orders were for 36 vehicles on behalf of the Slovenian Army. The second order was awarded in March 2003 and was valued at 34.5 million Euro with deliveries staring in 2005. Valuk 6x6 ASRV variant was introduced in 2005 equipped with Stalker reconnaissance system which includes TOPLITE surveillance and target acquisition subsystem.
