The Oshkosh Defense MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) provides mobility and protection in the toughest terrain. The M-ATV 4x4 vehicle is derived from the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) platform incorporating TAK-4 suspension system for enhanced off-road mobility. The United States Department of Defense (DoD) selected the Oshkosh M-ATV solution to equip its fighting forces in Afghanistan on June 30, 2009. The initial order was for 2,244 vehicles valued at $1.05 billion with the first vehicles planned for delivery starting in July 2009. The M-ATV armored vehicle is powered by a Carterpillar C7 diesel engine developing 370-hp and is air transportable by C-130 fixed-wing aircraft and CH-47 or CH-53 helicopters. It is equipped with Plasan composite armor and SYNEXXUS electronic keel. The high-performance M-ATV vehicle is suitable for operations in mountainous and rugged terrain in places such as Afghanistan thanks to its superior mobility and survivability.
