Description

The Xingkong-2 (X-2), Starry Sky-2 in English, is a hypersonic cruise missile being developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp since 2018 at least. The X-2 missile features a solid-propellant rocket motor that lifts the weapon until the payload separates and flies on its own a speed of Mach 5.5 to Mach 6. The X-2 can be equipped with a nuclear warhead and is able to pierce advanced ballistic missile defenses. The first test firing on record was carried out on August 5, 2018. The X-2 hypersonic cruise missile is expected to be deployed by China in the 2020-2025 timeframe.
