Description
The Type 093B is a further improvement of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Type 093 nuclear attack submarine class. The Type 093B is intended as a test bed for the Type 095 class submarines. The modified boat features up to 24 vertical launching systems (VLS) enabling the firing of the YJ-18 anti-ship missiles and YJ-85 land attack cruise missiles. The PLAN was expected to commission at least one boat in 2016 or 2017 but it was delayed due to scope of boat modifcations. The lead ship might be commissioned within 2024.
