Indra
The Indra (Indian Doppler Radar) is an L-band military tactical air surveillance 2D radar developed in the 1980s to meet the air defense requirements of the Indian armed forces. Operating with a 3.2 µs pulsewidth and 40 kW peak power, it provides accurate range and azimuth information for targets within an instrumented range of 50 km, primarily for point and area defense or as a gap filler against low-altitude aircraft threats. It features a mechanically scanning, doubly curved reflector antenna with a 3° beamwidth and 16 rpm rotation, offering high gain and low sidelobes, and integrates an IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) system within the main antenna. The radiating element is a corrugated horn supporting dual polarization; the Indra I variant is a classical keyed on/off pulsed radar distributed on two trucks, while the Indra II uses pulse compression and is distributed on three trucks, connecting to an air defense network via satellite, fiber optics, and microwave links. Both variants are transportable by rail, road, and air.
