Description
The Vulcano is a family of long-range 127mm projectiles developed by OTO Melara for shore bombardment from medium displacement warships. The 127mm fin stabilized projectile achieves longer ranges by means of a greater muzzle velocity and low drag implemented at the sub-caliber design, without rocket motor. This kind of ammunition can be employed by 127/54 Compact and Light Weight guns, and all the 5-inch/54 gun family. The Vulcano was originally developed to meet the requirements of the Italian Navy. Besides, a 155mm variant has been developed for use by field artillery.
