Description

The Selex Galileo Nibbio is a modular, high-maneuverable, high subsonic tactical reconnaissance drone system derived from the Mirach 100/5 aerial target. It features low radar and infrared signatures as well as chaff and flare dispensers. Integrated with a ground control station and wide array of sensors for deep, fast and undetected reconnaissance missions including electro-optical/infrared cameras and synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Nibbio is suited to the acquisition of high value information in hostile scenarios such as time-critical targets identification. The Nibbio can also perform fully autonomous launch and forget missions. The drone gets airborne from ship or ground platforms using two JATO boosters and is recovered using a parachute and airbags to protect the sensor payload.
