Project 12341

The Project 12341 , also known as Nanuchka-III and Burun, is a class of missile boats were designed by the former Soviet Union to conduct strikes against US/NATO naval forces in the littoral environment. The 730-ton class Nanuchka III boats are powered by three M521 diesel engines developing 30,000-shp and a top speed of 34 knots. The weapon system comprises six P-120 anti-ship missiles, one Osa-M air defense system with 20 9M33 surface-to-air missiles, one 76.2mm naval gun and one 30mm anti-aircraft gun. The sensor package includes MPZ-301 Baza/Pop air surveillance and targeting radar and Titanit/Band Stand sea surveillance and targeting radar. The former Soviet Union Navy commissioned 17 boats between 1977 and 1991. As of mid-2013 roughly 15 boats remain in service which are expected for replacement before 2020 by more advanced stealth corvettes already under construction. The 675-ton class Rais Hamidou/Nanuchka II vessels commissioned by the Algerian Navy in the 1980s feature a dual 57mm naval gun and four SS-N-2C Styx anti-ship missiles which have been replaced by 16 3M24/Uran subsonic sea-skimming missiles under a modernization program in the early 2000s. The Algerian Navy signed a contract with Russia in 2012 for the upgrade of Nanuchka II missile boats.
