LCU Mk IV
The Landing Craft Unit Mark IV (LCU Mk IV) is an indigenously designed and built craft by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) on behalf of the Indian Navy. These vessels have been designed to transport main battle tanks (MBTs), armored vehicles and troops from amphibious ships off the coast to enemy shores. The LCU Mk IVs are fitted with advanced integrated platform management system for remote control of propulsion, auxiliary and power generating equipment. The armament includes two CRN-91 30mm gun systems to provide fire support during amphibious landing operations. Besides, these ships can serve as maritime security boats, for humanitarian relief operations, evacuation from distant islands, search and rescue (SAR) and peacekeeping missions. The Indian Navy plans call for the procurement of eight crafts beginning in 2014. Finally, the first boat was commission in March 2017.
