Description
The US Navy SSN(X) program is aimed at delivering at least 28 next-generation nuclear-powered attack submarines beginning in 2031 along with the 38 Virginia-class boats will meet the target of 66 attack submarines by 2050. The new boat may focus on anti-submarine warfare (ASW) allowing for higher speeds while submerged and with a minimum noise emission in order to remain stealth. The lead ship of the class is expected to cast as much as $6.2 billion. The lead ship construction was delayed to 2035 in 2023 and to the 2040s in 2024.
