Description

The D-RAPCON (Deployable Radar Approach Control) is a transportable air traffic control radar system, based on a modified AN/TPS-79 operating in the S-band (2.7-2.9 GHz). This system, nicknamed “air traffic control in a box,” integrates all necessary subsystems for ground-controlled approach (GCA) within a single container that also houses a complete air traffic control room. Its monopulse antenna provides high accuracy for elevation angle measurement, enabling its use as a precision approach radar, and with an optional transmit power increase to 11 kW, it can also function as an en route radar, offering an instrumented range of 60 nautical miles (110 km). The D-RAPCON, which features an integrated IFF antenna sharing the primary radar's parabolic reflector, is air transportable by C-130 Hercules and can be fully operational at a new site within 48 hours.
