SysFla

The SysFla is a short-range air defense system being designed as the replacement of the Stinger missile system within the Bundeswehr/German Armed Forces protecting both stationary and mobile units in all situations. MBDA Deutschland and Rheinmetall Defence under the umbrella of SysFla GmbH are developing the air defense system on behalf of the BWB German Defense Procurement Agency under the framework of a contract signed in 2010. The Bundeswehr will use the SysFla as the replacement for the Roland missile system, which was retired in 2005, Gepard gun system, retired in 2010, and Stinger missile system, which is set to be retired by 2018. The SysFla short-range air defense system spectrum ranges from small targets to high-caliber rockets as well as agile missiles and conventional threats such as combat aircraft and helicopters within an altitude of up to 5 km and an interception range of up to 10 km. Its primary weapon will be the LFK NG surface-to-air missile. SysFla will be deployed along with the NBS C-RAM/Mantis gun system which provides protection against airborne threats at ranges of up to 3 km. The Bundeswehr plans call for the SysFla to complement the MEADS medium-range extended air defense system.
