Description

The Royal Danish Navy (RDN) Thetis class of patrol vessels, also called patrol frigates, have been designed to perform surveillance and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions. These ships are provided with AWS-6 air search radar, CTS-36 hull-mounted sonar and Salmon variable depth sonar. The propulsion system consists of three diesel engines developing 6,366-bhp of power allowing a top speed of 21.5 knots and a maximum range of 8,500 nautical miles. The vessel facilities include a flight deck and hangar for a Lynx helicopter. The weapon system includes a 76mm OTO dual purpose naval gun system, a 12.7mm machine gun, Stinger shoulder launched surface-to-air missiles (SAM) and depth charges. The RDN commissioned four vessels between 1991 and 1993.
