Description
The Mesbah, 'Lantern' in English, is a short-range, low-altitude air defense artillery system designed and manufactured in the Islamic Republic of Iran under its domestic weapons program started in 1992 as a response to the United States arms embargo. The rapid reaction gun system can fire up to 4,000 rounds per minute with high precision. The Mesbah 1 has been designed to counter a wide range of threats such as helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Serial production was launched in May 2010 with the weapon system achieving initial operational capability projected several months after that date.
