Description

The AN/SPS-73(V)12 is an X-band, two-dimensional, short-range naval radar system manufactured by Raytheon E-Systems in the United States. It functions as a surface search and navigation radar, offering improved signal processing and automatic target detection. The surface search capability provides short-range detection and surveillance of surface vessels and low-flying aircraft, while the navigation function enables precise determination of the ship's position relative to nearby vessels and navigational hazards. The system integrates Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products with specialized technologies in its radar processors and displays to enhance navigational awareness. When configured as a Shipborne Dual Radar System (SDRS), it utilizes the Japanese Furuno 2120 antenna and its pedestal. The AN/SPS-73(V)12 is currently installed on approximately 100 U.S. Navy ships, replacing the AN/SPS-64(V) and AN/SPS-55(V) systems in their navigational radar roles.
