Alternate Designation Type 64
Type Projected Grenade
Manufacturer INA
Design The grenade is of multi-piece construction and consists of a fuze or shipping plug, ogive, cylindrical body, base and boom and fin assembly. The ogive is bottle-shaped and has two opposed spanner holes and a forward bourrelet surface. The base has a rear bourrelet then tapers inward. The boom is cylindrical and has 20 flash holes and has a shrouded, pre-engraved, four-bladed fin at the rear. The base of the boom has an ignition cartridge retainer. An unfired grenade would have a propellant bag attached to the boom and a blow-out disc mounted on the boom at the rear of the fin.
Note The Type 64 projected grenade should not be confused as a mortar (not fired via a mortar tube) or projectile (no driving band), however, it does have pre-rifling around the fins.
