Description
The Galileo Second Generation (G2) is an improved version of the Galileo satellite featuring enhanced navigation antennas, electric propulsion system and a service life of 15 years. The new spacecrafts are intended to provide improved accuracy compared with the previous generation. The Galileo G2 satellite weighs 2.3 tons and will be placed into orbit by the Ariane 62 space launch system. The European Space Agency (ESA) plans call for placement into orbit of 12 Galileo G2 satellites beginning in late 2024. A first batch of six spacecrafts is being built by Airbus to be delivered in 2024 and 2025.
