Description

The TAL (Torpedo Advanced Light) is a 220-kg lightweight torpedo developed by India's National Science and Technology Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, and assembled locally by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL). The Tal can be launched from surface ships and helicopters and is intended to destroy submarines at speeds of up to 33 knots in both shallow and deep waters. It is powered by electric batteries which last for six minutes and uses a self-homing guidance system. The Indian Navy introduced the Tal torpedo into service in March 2012.
