Description

The Rooikat is an 8x8 wheeled cavalry vehicle designed to provide high speeds both on- and off-road as well as high mobility for operation in a wide variety of terrains, enhanced combat survivability and devastating firepower. The export model is armed with a low recoil force 105mm GT7 gun, while the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) Rooikat is equipped with a high-pressure 76mm GT4 gun. The GT7 gun fires all 105mm NATO standard ammunition. The secondary armament of Rooikat consists of a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun and a second machine gun mounted on the turret roof. The Rooikat armored fighting vehicle can operate day and night thanks to a thermal camera which also provides hunter-killer capability. It can fire both static or on the move using a 105mm or a 76mm main gun with high kill probability against modern armored vehicles. The Rooikat concept was designed to be flawlessly adapted to the African theater of operations in comparison with heavier tracked main battle tanks used in Europe which tend to perform poorly in African environments. Denel and BAE Land Systems OMC of South Africa are responsible for the Rooikat armored fighting vehicle.
