Description
The Type 095, or Type 098, has been proposed as the third generation of Chinese nuclear-powered attack submarines. The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) may be pursuing this new ship to match the capabilities and performance of current Russian and Western nuclear-powered attack submarines. Little is known about Type 095 and maybe it would never exist. Its development would be caused by Type 093's poor performance. The United States Intelligence community stated in August 2010 that China may commission up to five boats in the coming years.
