Description
The New Shepard is a fully reusable, affordable, lightweight space launch system developed by Blue Origin based upon vertical takeoff and vertical landing. The New Shepard consists of a pressurized capsule atop of a rocket booster that lifts to an altitude beyond 100 kilometers achieving a top speed of Mach 3. The rocket booster is powered by the BE-3 rocket engine delivering 110,000-lb of thrust. The capsule has a seating capacity for up to six people and after separation from the booster it lands utilizing parachutes. The New Shepard carried out the first test flight on April 29, 2015, and the first commercial flight was completed on December 12, 2017.
