Description
The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Aegis System Equipped Vessel (ASEV) is a program intended to deliver two advanced destroyers equipped with the SPY-7 radar system. These vessels are intended to provide ballistic missile defense capability replacing the cancelled Aegis Ashore systems. The 12,000-ton class destroyers are expected to be commissioned in the late 2020s or early 2030s and will be aimed at countering the military capabilities of China and North Korea.
