MWMIK

The MWMIK 4x4, now Jackal 4x4, is a weapons-mounted patrol vehicles purchased by the United Kingdom (UK) under a June 2007 Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR) for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Compared to other similar vehicles fielded by the United Kingdom Armed Forces, the MWMIK 4-wheel drive tactical vehicle will offer greater firepower, payload, range and mobility. The UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) purchased 130 MWMIK/Jackal vehicles replacing Land Rover-based vehicles to be deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan beginning in early 2008. As of April 2008, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) plans call for the procurement of 200 vehicles. The 4-ton class Jackal all-terrain tactical vehicle features a top speed on-road of 130 kph or 80 kph off-road carrying a crew of three-man. Besides, the Jackal can be provided with an add-on armor kit which increases the vehicle's weight above 6 tons. The weapon options include general purpose machine guns, automatic grenade launcher and .50 (12.7mm) machine gun. It is powered by a 5.9 liters Cummins ISBe Euro3 engine. Optionally, the Jackal can be fitted with the BOWMAN communications equipment.
