Description

The Dhanush is a 155mm 45-caliber towed howitzer derived from the FH-77B howitzer and intended as its replacement within the Indian Army. The domestically-built Dhanush weapon system is intended to provide field artillery in support of units on the ground. It provides longer range and higher rate of fire compared with its predecessor. India ordered 114 Dhanush howitzers worth $2 billion to be delivered between 2017 and 2019 with the aim of replacing 414 FH-77B howitzers which have been in active duty within the Indian Army since the 1990s. In 2017 the new howitzer was proven unreliable during field trials with some components breaking down during firing of 155mm shells.
