The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) helicopter division's Dhruv 'polestar' medium-size, multi-role, multi-mission aircraft is the result of the Indian Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) program. Series production started in 2000 achieving initial operational capability (IOC) with the Indian Navy in 2002. This helicopter was designed to meet the requirements of both civil and military operators. The versatile Dhruv twin-engine helicopter can perform transport, utility and attack missions using a day/night, all-weather navigation and targeting systems. The avionics and glass cockpit are provided by Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) and the two TM333 turboshaft engines by Turbomeca (Snecma Group) of France. India is also offering the Shakti engine as an alternative to the Turbomeca TM333 turboshaft.
