Description
The GEO-IK is a geodesic satellite constellation intended for use by both civil and military customers operating in circular orbits 1,000 km above Earth. The GEO-IK instruments are designed to generate a high resolution 3D map of the Earth. The Russian military are using the satellites of this kind to determine the exact position of high value targets for their cruise missiles and other advanced weapons. The second satellite of the series, GEO-IK-2, was launched on February 1, 2011, from Plesetsk by a Rockot space rocket. After going missing, GEO-IK-2 was located in a 330 kilometers elliptical orbit and was impossible to bring it to its proper orbit.
