Description
The 76M6 Kontakt is the successor to the Soviet Union’s 30P6 missile intended to shoot down satellites and spacecraft developed in the 1980s. The Russian Federation first test fired the 76M6 missile interceptor in 2018 from the Mig-31 high-speed aircraft. The improved Kontakt missile can hit targets at altitudes between 120 and 300 kilometers (or even 600 kilometers) where most of intelligence satellites are located. The 76M6 Kontakt missile is expected to be deployed by the Mig-31 and Mig-41 interceptors as well as bombers such as the future PAK DA. The Kontakt weapon system will be employed to neutralize both spacecraft and incoming ballistic missiles.
