Description

BAE Land Systems OMC of South Africa, formerly Alvis Plc, RG-32 Scout is a 4x4 high mobility, all-terrain, all-weather, air-transportable, multi-purpose, light armored vehicle featuring welded armor monocoque hull . It is powered by a 180-hp engine which provides a top speed of 120 kph. Its all-steel armor protects the crew, engine and other key components against small arms fire, grenades, anti-personnel mines and land mine detonation under any wheel. The vehicle accepts four passengers in addition to the driver. In a high capacity configuration the RG-32 vehicle can transport as many as eight passengers. More than 800 vehicles have been produced for more than 22 customers since the RG-32 inception in the early 2000s. The RG-32M Scout 2 is an improved variant of the RG-32 resulting heavier than its parent vehicle. Both variants are constructed from commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) automotive sub-assemblies providing cost-effectiveness, reliability and worldwide supportability. The RG-32M is a reconfigurable vehicle adding mission specific equipment and weapons which allows for a wider spectrum of roles including military operations in urban terrain (MOUT). Two of these vehicles can be placed inside a single C-130 sized aircraft and deployed worldwide. RG-32s and RG-32Ms are suitable for both non-military and military applications such as command, liaison, scouting, patrol and peacekeeping missions.
